After the successful reboot aired last year, Fox ordered another 10 episodes of its popular sci-fi series The X-Files. The series, which stars David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson, called Vancouver home for several years during its initial run and it returned back to the city in 2015 to film the reboot. The X-Files season 11 starts filming today, a few days ahead of the original August 8th start date that it was originally slated for.

No location for today has been spotted yet, but thanks to @melchirii, we know that filming will take place at 1745 West 8th Avenue in Vancouver on Tuesday, August 8th. 3rd Floor Productions (or 3FP) was the show’s working production company name during the reboot as well.

Keep an eye on our Current Filming Locations page where we’ll post more locations as they’re spotted throughout the next few months. If you spot any The X-Files season 11 filming locations, be sure to let us know by tweeting us (@WhatsFilming) or via our Submit a Location page.

Series lead David Duchovny generated lots of excitement amongst eager X-Files fans yesterday when he tweeted a pic from Vancouver:

There’s not a lot of details “out there” for what to expect from the new season, but Deadline.com recently reported that Mitch Pileggi is set to return to reprise his role as Walter Skinner, an ally of Mulder and Scully.

Thank you as always to @lemon_buzz for posting several months ago that The X-Files season 11 would be filming in Vancouver.

For a full list of everything else that starts or finishes filming in Vancouver and area this week, check out our Weekly Update.

The X-Files
season 11 is currently scheduled to continue filming in Vancouver and area until December 21st.

Life Sentence – Season 1 (TV Series)

Life Sentence season 1 was greenlit by The CW for 13 x 60 minute episodes this spring. The series was created by Fuller House producers Erin Cardillo and Richard Keith. The story is centred around a girl named Stella, who has spent the last 8 years living life to its fullest after being diagnosed with cancer. She eventually finds out that she’s beat the cancer, but that turns out to be both a blessing and a curse.

She may not be on the verge of death anymore, but now she has to face her friends, family and all of the spur of the moment decisions she’s made over the last few years head on. The official logline sums the show up as a “multi-generational, coming-of-age story” that depicts how “we all end up living somewhere between our dreams and reality”.

Lucy is no stranger to filming in British Columbia, or having her TV shows relocate after filming their pilot episode. Pretty Little Liars filmed its pilot in Vancouver and area before relocating to Los Angeles for the rest of the series. She also filmed a Lifetime movie called Sorority Wars in Victoria in 2009. Lucy’s PLL pal Janel Parrish, who played Mona on the show, has also been in Vancouver for filming over the past month. Her latest project, a young adult movie called To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before, just wrapped up production in the area last week.

Life Sentence Season 1 Trailer

Here’s the first look trailer for Life Sentence season 1 that the CW shared this spring. After watching, it’s easy to see how Vancouver will be able to pick up where Atlanta left off; a lot of the shots look like they could have easily been filmed in Gastown.

Thank you as always to @lemon_buzz who broke the news that the series would be moving from Atlanta to Vancouver to film. Life Sentence season 1 will continue filming in Vancouver and British Columbia until January 12th, 2018 and will premiere the same month on The CW in the US and on Bravo in Canada.

Coming Home For Christmas

At this point we can consider Danica McKellar (The Wonder Years) a local. This will be the fourth BC-filmed Hallmark movie in 2016-17 alone that Danica has starred in; joining Wedding Bells, My Christmas Dream and Campfire Kiss. She also makes appearances on Project Mc2 which films primarily in Maple Ridge.

This time around, she’s joined by Neal Bledsoe (The Mysteries of Laura) in Coming Home For Christmas. Danica’s character, Allie Richfield, finds herself amidst the feuding Marley family who have hired her as a house manager for the Virginian countryside estate they’re trying to sell. Determined to bring them together again in time for Christmas, Allie plans one final gala for the Marley family.

Things get more complicated along the way as Allie begins to fall in love with Robert Marley, while Kip Marley tries to pursue her. Despite the feuding and the awkward love triangle, Allie has to find a way to make the event a success while teaching the family to appreciate the true meaning of Christmas again.

According to the movie’s IMDb page, Lindsay Maxwell (Good Luck Chuck) and Rebecca Staab (Somewhere Between) have also been added to the cast.

Coming Home For Christmas will continue filming in Vancouver and British Columbia until August 28th and will premiere on Hallmark Channel during this year’s Countdown to Christmas series.

Welcome Home Warrior

Welcome Home Warrior stars Julie Benz (Dexter, Training Day) as a military widow who has all but lost her Christmas spirit. Things begin to change after she rents out an apartment to an injured Army Captain. His infectious passion for the holiday inspires her to rediscover how magical the Christmas season really is. Despite them each suffering for different reasons, they team up to save the town’s military museum and find their own healing along the way.

Skyscraper (Feature)

Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson is in town for his latest action movie called Skyscraper. Dwayne plays a character named Will Ford. After a career with the FBI as a Hostage Rescue Team Lead, Will now assesses the security of skyscrapers for a living. Things take a turn for the worse when Will is framed for a fire in what was supposed to be the tallest and safest building in the world. With his family trapped inside the skyscraper, Will has to attempt to rescue them and find out who caused the disaster so he can bring them to justice.

The Rock will be joined by Neve Campbell (Scream, House of Cards), Pablo Schreiber (American Gods, Orange is the New Black), Chin Han (The Dark Knight, Marco Polo) and Noah Taylor (Preacher, Game of Thrones). The story was written by Rawson Marshall Thurber who is also directing the film.

Last week Dwayne Johnson tugged on the heartstrings of Vancouverites with a heartfelt video posted to his Instagram account. In the video The Rock says Vancouver is one of his “favourite cities in the world” and talks about his first pro football game which took place in the city while he was playing for the Calgary Stampeders CFL Team.

The Rock also shared a behind the scenes picture of himself alongside writer/director Rawson Marshall Thurber and cinematographer Robert Elswit on set of Skyscraper:

Signs for the movie were spotted at the Pinnacle Hotel in near the Shipyards in North Vancouver on Tuesday, and they will be spending some time at the Canada Post Building, a filming hot spot in downtown Vancouver which serves as a studio-like facility to many productions.

Skyscraper is scheduled to continue filming in Vancouver and British Columbia until November 17th and is slated to be released in theatres on July 13th, 2018.

Marwencol (aka Untitled Robert Zemeckis Project, The Women of Marwen) (Feature)

Production of Marwencol was originally expected to kick off this week, but according to the DGCBC, the start date was moved ahead to last Friday. The movie stars Steve Carell (Anchorman, The Office) as Mark Hogancamp, a man who lost his memory following a horrific attack. As he begins to recover, Mark turns to building a miniature village to help him cope and pass the time. The village is comprised of dolls whose identities he believes are real.

As the current working title suggests, Oscar winning filmmaker Robert Zemeckis is directing the film from a script he wrote alongside Caroline Thompson. Robert is best known for writing the Back to the Future movie franchise as well as producing The Polar Express.

Here’s a roundup of the cast according to the film’s IMDb page:

Actor Role You may know them from

The Christmas Train

Based on the #1 New York Times bestselling book of the same name by David Baldacci, The Christmas Train is a Hallmark Hall of Fame movie set to premiere during the network’s ambitious slate of holiday programming later this year.

The story follows Tom Langdon, a 41 year old journalist. Outside of work, Tom doesn’t have a whole lot going for him; he’s divorced with no kids, no siblings and his father died years ago. His mother, who is the only one he had left, has just passed away from a stroke. During this desperate state, the lowest point in his life, he turns to his ex-wife for help, but she won’t even accept his collect call.

Tom sets out on a train trip across the United States, from D.C. to California, just in time for Christmas. His experiences along the way cause him to rekindle a former love and rediscover both himself and the magic of Christmas.

Dermont Mulroney (My Best Friend’s Wedding, Pure Genius) is set to star in the movie as Tom. Dermont just recently wrapped up a role on Twentieth Century Fox’s big budget feature The Mountain Between Us, which also filmed in British Columbia. He’ll be joined by Kimberly Williams-Paisley (Darrow & Darrow, Father of the Bride), Joan Cusack (Shameless, Toy Story 4) and Danny Glover (Lethal Weapon).

The Christmas Train will continue filming in British Columbia until September 15th.

A Gift to Remember

A Gift to Remember is based on a novel of the same name from international #1 bestselling author Melissa Hill. The story centres around a woman named Darcy, who has had a passion for books her whole life and now works her dream job at a small book store in New York City. After what may turn out to be fate, Darcy accidentally strikes a man named Adrian while she was biking to work one day. Adrian has to be rushed to a hospital and winds up in a coma as a result of the accident.

Beside herself with grief and guilt, Darcy takes it upon herself to care for the man’s dog while he’s incapacitated. Along the way she learns that he’s actually a writer himself, and she begins to fall in love with the idea of what Adrian may actually be like. What happens when Adrian regains consciousness and meets Darcy and the fictitious persona she’s created for him?

Surrey, BC native Alie Liebert is set to play Darcy. Hallmark fans will recognize her from Chesapeake Shores or Autumn in the Vineyard, but she is also known for Bomb Girls, Strange Empire, Ten Days in the Valley and BC-filmed series Mech-X4. She can also be seen in the upcoming movie Wonder, which hits theatres this fall. She’ll be joined by Peter Porte (Love at the Shore, Devious Maids) who will play Adrian. Local actors Vincent Dangerfield (When We Rise, The Killing) and Ricky He (Christmas Solo, Looks Like Christmas) will play William and Josh respectively.

RELATED: Chesapeake Shores Season 2 Starts Filming on Vancouver Island

Thanks to @AprilBC23, we know that one of the filming locations for A Gift to Remember is Simpson Manor on Glover Road in Fort Langley. The building is normally a nursing home, but for the movie it will likely serve as the hospital where Adrian spends his time during his coma.

A Gift to Remember will continue filming in British Columbia until September 9th.

Mistletoe Inn

Mistletoe Inn is part of a collection of books written by New York Times bestselling author Richard Paul Evans. The previous book in the series, The Mistletoe Promise, became a Hallmark movie which aired last Christmas after filming in British Columbia earlier in the year.

RELATED: Hallmark’s Countdown to Christmas 2016 – Movies Filmed in BC

Hallmark hasn’t released their official treatment of how Mistletoe Inn will be adapted for TV, but the novel is centred around Kimberly Rossi, a 32 year-old finance officer at a Lexus car dealership. Although that may be her day job, her real dream is to become a published romance novelist. She has the life experience needed to fit the role too. She’s had her heart broken several times, including 2 engagements gone awry, followed by a marriage that eventually ended in divorce.

To avoid spending another Christmas alone, Kim decides to join the “Mistletoe Retreat”, a conference where a writer she idolizes will be speaking. While attending the event, she meets a man named Zeke who makes her realize the parallel between her lack of a love life and her writing career that hasn’t taken off yet. Together, the pair discover that they need to have vulnerability and passion in order to achieve their dreams; both in their personal lives and careers.

So far, we know that Mistletoe Inn will star Alicia Witt and David Alpay, who will likely play Kim and Zeke respectively. They’ll also be joined by Vancouver’s own Lucie Guest, who has appeared on Orphan Black, iZombie and Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce. Hallmark fans will know Lucy from Chesapeake Shores and Murder, She Baked: Just Desserts. Lucy will also appear in Josh Duhamel’s movie The Buddy Games, which is currently filming in BC as well. We’ll update this article as more casting information becomes available.

Colony Season 3 Starts Filming in Vancouver Area

Colony Season 3 (TV Series)

Colony season 3 sees the return of Josh Holloway (Lost) and Sarah Wayne Callies (The Walking Dead) as Will and Katie Bowman respectively. Callies is no stranger to filming in Vancouver after reprising her role as Sara Tancredi in the latest season of Prison Break which filmed in the city during 2016. She was also in town during 2015 for a role in The Show (aka This is Your Death).

The USA Network sci-fi series is centred around Will, a former FBI Agent, and his wife Katie as they fight to keep their family together and survive in a world that has been taken over by aliens. In a similar vein to Wayward Pines, the community is divided by those who have chosen to go along with the occupation and those who are rebelling. The Bowman’s endgame has been to rescue their son, Bram, who they became separated from during the initial invasion. The parents are forced to make tough decisions along the way in order to guarantee their son will remain safe from the occupied forces.

There hasn’t been a great deal of reveals about what to expect for Colony season 3, but executive producers Ryan Condal and Wes Tooke mentioned a few things of note in an interview with TVLine.com during Comic-Con. Will and Katie may have left Los Angeles, but the occupation is global, spanning far beyond the city. This opens the doors to the series to go in a variety of different directions following its relocation to Vancouver. There will also be heightened alien activity including an upcoming battle.

Here’s a sizzle reel shared by the USA Network to get fans hyped for Colony season 3

Colony Season 3 Filming Locations

Thanks to @michelle_jung, we know that Colony has been prepping at the former Safeway Warehouse near 11th Avenue and 16th Street in Burnaby. The property is a popular studio-alternative for many productions filming in the area, including Prison Break during its time in the province back in 2016. The show is also prepping a set in a wooded mountainous area outside of the city. Hopefully there will be more details on that set soon.

As more locations are spotted, they’ll be added to our Current Filming Locations Page as well as our Filming Locations Archive, so check back often for updates!

Sarah Wayne Callies shared a sneak peek from day 1 of Colony season 3 with co-star Peter Jacobson, who plays Alan Snyder on the show:

A Dog’s Way Home Movie From W. Bruce Cameron to Film in Vancouver

$

A Dog’s Way Home is based on the novel of the same name written by New York Times bestselling author W. Bruce Cameron. The story is among a series of dog-themed novels Bruce has written including A Dog’s Purpose, which was released in theatres on January 27th of this year. A Dog’s Purpose also filmed in Canada; it called the Winnipeg area home during production in 2015.

Just prior to its theatrical release, A Dog’s Purpose became the focus of the media as a result of animal cruelty allegations, claiming inhumane treatment of one of the dogs in the film. Both the production company and cast quickly shut down these claims.

Gavin Polone will be back to produce A Dog’s Way Home, but this time he’ll be joined by director Charles Martin Smith. His previous directing credits include 3 episodes of Vancouver-filmed series Motive as well as Dolphin Tale (2011) and Air Bud (1997). He’s also appeared as an actor in Motive as well as Fringe and The X-Files.

There’s been no official casting announcements for A Dog’s Way Home, but we’ll update this article when more details become available. Although the original movie featured Riverdale star KJ Apa and Dennis Quaid as younger and older versions of the main character, the story of A Dog’s Way Home features a different set of characters altogether.

A Dog’s Way Home follows the same theme as the previous movie, focusing on the incredible and at times un-explainable bond between humans and their pets. The story is centred around Lucas, who unexpectedly finds himself caring for a cute, little, homeless pit bull puppy named Bella. Although his building doesn’t allow dogs, Lucas can’t find it in his heart to turn her away. He decides to sneak her into his building and hide the dog from his neighbours.

Eventually Bella is stipped away from Lucas by Animal Control and the two find themselves hours apart. Bella is determined not to let the hundreds of miles between them prevent her from seeing Lucas, so she sets out on an incredible journey back home to him.

A Dog’s Way Home is currently scheduled to start filming in Vancouver and area from October 16th and wrap up on December 15th.

The Crash Pad movie completed most of its filming in Vancouver and area during October and November of 2015 before returning for a very brief period of additional photography the following April.

The R-rated awkward comedy is centred around Stensland, played by Domhnall Gleeson. Although he thought it was true love, Stensland has just discovered that Morgan, the woman he just had a one night stand with, is actually married. What’s worse, she’s just using him to get revenge on her cheating husband Grady (Thomas Haden Church). Strangely, Grady and Stensland end up living together and drowning their combined sorrows in alcohol, drugs and a revolving door of overnight strangers.

Both Dobrev and Gleeson are no strangers to filming in Canada. Dobrev, who spent most of her life living in Toronto filmed both xXx: Return of Xander Cage and Flatliners in the city since wrapping up Crash Pad. She’s also known for her role as Mia Jones on Degrassi: The Next Generation which also filmed in Toronto. Before filming Crash Pad, Gleeson was in British Columbia (and Alberta) for his role alongside Leonardo DiCaprio in the widely successful 2015 movie The Revenant.

Harvest Love, part of Hallmark Channel’s Fall Harvest original movie series, filmed in British Columbia from July 24th to August 12th under the working title of Peared With a Kiss. The series features 6 new movies which were all filmed in Canada (5 filmed in BC) including: Falling For Vermont, Harvest Love, All of My Heart: Inn Love, Love Struck Cafe, A Harvest Wedding and Good Witch Spellbound (filmed in Ontario).

Harvest Love Storyline

To help cope with the recent loss of her husband, a Seattle-based surgeon named Luna tries to bury herself in work. Her strategy may have helped to distract her from the pain, but in the process it made her a less than stellar mother to her 9 year old son, Andy. To help make up for some lost time, Luna decides that a getaway is just what the doctor ordered for her and Andy.

Although Andy was reluctant at first, the two set out for a trip to Luna’s family pear farm in Pineview. Upon her return she’s surrounded by nostalgia. She hasn’t visited the farm in years, but she’s flooded with childhood memories and quickly begins to fall in love with the place all over again. And the farm may not be the only thing she winds up loving about being back home.

Luna meets Will, the man who has been managing her parents farm while they’ve been travelling abroad. They may not have gotten off to a great start, but eventually their feelings toward each other become undeniable. Despite how hard Luna tries to avoid the inevitable, Andy and Will start to build a bond, which may just be the icing on the cake. Things are going so well that Luna decides to stay in town for another week so she and Andy can attend the Pineview Fall Harvest Festival, one of the biggest events of the year in the small town.

Luna may still be on vacation, but she finds herself with the responsibility of helping with the harvest after Will gets stuck in Seattle on one of the most critical days of the season. Thanks to the lessons in honouring heritage that Will taught her, things go pretty smoothly. So much so that a competition for Overall Best Pear breaks out between Luna’s family farm and a former rival. In the end the town could find itself a new champion, and a new doctor.

The Christmas Cottage (TV Movie)

The Christmas Cottage is about a young and single interior designer named Lacey Quinn who has already seen her fair share of heartbreak. Like many, she buries herself in work in order to avoid love altogether. That doesn’t stop her from taking on the responsibility of becoming the maid of honour for her best friend Ava Callahan’s wedding. One of Lacey’s main duties as maid of honour is getting Ava’s family cottage ready for the newlywed’s honeymoon.

As fate would have it, Lacey winds up getting snowed in at the cottage alongside Ava’s brother, Charlie. Although she doesn’t buy into it at first, Ava starts to realize there may be some truth to the legend that everlasting love will ensue following a couple’s first night spent at the cottage.

The Christmas Cottage stars Whistler-born and raised actress Merritt Patterson, presumably as Lacey. Merritt is known for her role as Ophelia on the E! TV series The Royals. After just wrapping up production of A Simple Favor in the Toronto area earlier this month, Anna Kendrick is in Vancouver for a Disney feature film, tentatively titled Nicole.

The script was written by Marc Lawrence who will also serve as the director. Marc is best known for writing the Miss Congeniality movies. Nicole is being dubbed a “female Santa Claus” movie. The story is centred around Santa’s daughter, Nicole Claus (Anna Kendrick). Nicole finds herself having to take over the “reins” after her father retires and her brother, the rightful heir to the suit, decides to bail before the big day.

Here’s a roundup of the cast of Nicole thanks in part to the film’s IMDb page:

Anna Kendrick is, of course, no stranger to filming in Vancouver. She was in the area off and on for the better part of five years while filming the Twilight movie series. During that time, she also filmed 50/50, alongside Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Seth Rogen, in the area.

Nicole will continue filming in Vancouver and British Columbia until January 19th and is expected to premiere in 2019; likely in time for the holidays.

She’s released on the conditions of never returning to Ridgewood, and never contacting her estranged father with whom she’s had issues with in the past. Despite her promises to the authorities, it’s not long before she resumes her villainous ways.

She quickly tracks down her father’s address by threatening her former psychiatrist and shows up unannounced at his property development company. She sees an opportunity and takes it; posing as a new employee named Miranda. In the perfect position to wreak havoc from the inside, Vanessa sets her master plan into motion. Her endgame is to kill her father and his new family so she can claim inheritance over his estate.

Two/One (Feature)

They say that Vancouver never plays itself. But at least Whistler will be able to for the next few weeks as Two/One starts filming in the area. The movie explores the possibility that we are in one place while we’re awake, and a totally different place while we’re sleeping. In this case, those two places are Whistler, BC and Shanghai, China.

An Olympic-level ski jumper named Kaden is in Whistler while Khai is a businessman in Shanghai who’s obsessed with the new girl at his office. The two men are connected, despite having never met before and had no knowledge of the other’s existence. While Kaden is sleeping, Khai is awake, and vice versa. They live their individual lives without affecting each other, that is of course unless they happen to meet and have to figure out who is real and who is the dreamer.

Logan/Narcos star Boyd Holbrook is set as one of the leads for the movie; presumably as Kaden/Khai. Boyd just wrapped up a role in the upcoming Predator movie which filmed in the Vancouver area as well. According to the film’s IMDb page, local actress Anna Van Hooft is set to appear in the movie as well. Anna has several credits on Vancouver-based productions including Cedar Cove, The Marine 5, Fringe, Flash Gordon and the upcoming Crash Pad movie.

Two/One will continue filming in British Columbia until December 3rd before relocating to Shanghai for the balance of production.
